Margaret Dennis, who has died after a long illness, was the widow of
former Scarborough Cricket Club captain Geoff Dennis

Margaret was well known in the area for her charity work.

School jumble sales developed an interest in fundraising & this was
followed by work for the scout movement.

Margaret was a pioneer in starting up the St. Catherine’s Hospice retail
network opening the first shop in Castle Road in 1986 and later becoming
the volunteer manager of the Falsgrave Road shop.

Christian Aid and the Rotary and Inner Wheel Clubs also benefitted from
her fundraising.

She received the Paul Harris fellowship award from Scarborough Rotary Club
in 1992

She was awarded the MBE for her services to the community in the millennium
New Years Honours list.
Margaret died on July 15th 2008
