Secretary’s report – AGM April 25th 2009
There are 46 members present at the AGM today and three more people will join the group for lunch. A list of names of the 26 members who have sent apologies for absence has been placed on the notice board. Dorothy Johnson (Hurrell) has resigned from the committee since the last newsletter as she is often away and unable to attend events but she has sent her best wishes and has said that she will continue to help in any way that she can. Dena Hebditch has sent her good wishes for the continued success of the club and Daphne Haythorpe (Markham) has sent best wishes for a successful meeting & lunch. Mary Massheder (Watson) who is in the Hebrides to celebrate a family wedding has said that she will be raising a glass to all of us!
There are currently 172 members listed, which is a slight drop since the last AGM, although there are now 27 life members. Only two intakes between 1929 and 1970 are not represented; while the majority of members live in Yorkshire there are 12 members living overseas and 45 in other parts of the UK. Five members have died during the year; five people have resigned and six new members have joined the group. The membership list available today includes the names of nine people who have not paid the subscription for two years and their names will be removed from the database if there is no response to the latest reminder. This will reduce the membership to 163, which is a very small percentage of former pupils and staff - if you have any suggestions for attracting new recruits or ideas for social events please tell the committee. Most events are open to guests and inviting a non-member to join us can encourage others to become involved with the group.
During the year four newsletters have been sent to members and I would like to thank Valerie Millar (June Bayley), Marianne Schainholz (Wolf) and Wendy Colley (Carter) for their interesting contributions. Input from others makes the job of secretary very much easier; if you can help it would be much appreciated.
Finally, can I remind you to tell the secretary if your contact details change so that you still receive information about the Association. If you have access to the internet & check your e-mail regularly this is a cheaper way to communicate, saving on both postage costs and stationery.
