Minutes of the Annual General Meeting of the

Scarborough Girls’ High School Old Girls’ Association

held on Saturday April 25^th 2009, at the Palm Court Hotel, Scarborough at 11.15am

The Chairlady introduced Miss Briggs, the last headmistress of the school and president of the association, who officially opened the meeting. Miss Briggs thanked all the officers and committee for their hard work over the year, especially the secretary. Miss Briggs asked for a minute’s silence to pay respects to those members who had died during the past twelve months:

Enid Hargrave (neé Carter), a life member (1946-1953)

Margaret Dennis MBE (neé Haynes), a pupil from 1940-1945, school secretary 1945-1952

Grace Bremner (neé Watkinson) at the age of 100, a pupil from 1919-1924 and the oldest member for many years

Shirley Fretwell (neé Morley) 1944-1951, a former committee member

Margaret Appleton (neé Sellars) 1939-1946

The minutes of the annual general meeting held on April 19^th 2008 had been previously circulated, and were proposed as a true record by Margaret Hunter, seconded by Judith Appleby.

There were no matters arising from the minutes.

Chairlady’s report:

The Chairlady welcomed everyone and thanked all involved with organising events over the past year, especially the Secretary. There had been visits to the Stephen Joseph Theatre to see ‘Accidental Death of an Anarchist’ and ‘Othello’; lunches at Cober Hill and the Palm Court; visits to Burton Agnes Hall at Christmas and to see the snowdrops.

April 17^th 2010 was suggested as the date for the next AGM. A venue is to be decided.
Suitable dates for the Autumn lunch were 26^th September, 3^rd October and 10^th October. The venue is to be decided.
Any other business:

Maureen Ille told the meeting about the web site and asked members to help identify people on the photographs. A counter on the web site showed that it was looked at by people all over the world. The address is http://www.sghsoldgirls.org.uk
