Publicity Report – AGM April 25th 2009
Events organised by the committee have been publicised in the Scarborough Evening News and local sister papers and the North Yorkshire Times. Details have been sent to the two local radio stations; Radio York and Yorkshire Coast Radio and posters have been displayed on suitable notice boards in the area.
At the AGM last year Susan Mitchell offered to be responsible for regional publicity. She has contacted The Dalesman Magazine and the Yorkshire Evening Post, both have free listings of events but do not guarantee publication. The Saga magazine charges £30.00 for a short advertisement and the committee decided to insert the following notice in the March issue to try to raise awareness of the group nationally:-
Scarborough Girls’ High School – were you a pupil or a teacher? For alumni information contact the secretary - 2, Lockwood Chase, Cloughton, Scarborough YO13 0BD. Regular social events, new members welcome.
Four former pupils and one former member of staff have written to ask for information and Stephen Gambrill, widower of Enid Sykes, sent magazines and a speech day programme from the 1940’s after seeing the notice. I would like to thank Lesley Elliott who arranged this, as the notice had to be submitted by a Saga subscriber. Susan is willing to look for other magazines which offer similar options and is considering "Yours" and "The Lady" as possibilities.
