Minutes of the Annual General Meeting of the

Scarborough Girls’ High School Old Girls’ Association

held on Saturday, April 19^th 2008 at the Palm Court Hotel, Scarborough at 11.30am

1) The chairlady introduced Miss Briggs, the last headmistress of the school and president of the association who officially opened the meeting. Miss Briggs welcomed everyone present and thanked the committee for all they do to make the association a success.

4) The minutes of the annual general meeting held on April 21^st 2007 were read and proposed as a true record by June Dent, seconded by Betty Major.

5) There were no matters arising.

10) Election of officers and committee members:

a) Assistant secretary: Mary Barry proposed by Eileen Noble, seconded by Joan Wallington

b) Local publicity officer: Lynne Reed proposed by Pamela Elliott, seconded by Miss Briggs

c) Ordinary members: Judith Appleby proposed by Sandra Webb, seconded by Mary Barry

Lesley Elliott proposed by Maureen Ille, seconded by Judith Appleby Susan Mitchell volunteered to be responsible for regional publicity as a non committee member. Eileen Noble proposed and Maureen Ille seconded that this offer should be accepted.

11) Anne Davidson proposed that Stephen Watson should be elected as the independent reviewer of the accounts. This was seconded by Margaret Shaw.

12) Future events:

The secretary was asked to arrange a weekend visit to the Rotunda Museum in conjunction with a meal at the Mount Hotel.
July 15^th was suggested as the preferred date for lunch at Cober Hill.
Members said that they would like an Autumn Lunch at the Palm Court Hotel. Margaret Mollon asked if guests could be invited and Margaret Hunter asked if the meal would be a set menu or a buffet. A vote was taken and a majority preferred a set menu with a some choice of dishes. Jean Martin asked if the vegetarian option could named in advance

13) April 25^th 2009 was suggested as the date for the next AGM to be held at the Palm Court Hotel

14) Raffles & quizzes – most people were in favour of continuing these. Pamela Elliott proposed that a raffle should be held on alternate years at the AGM and the profit added to the Glauert Fund, this would help to compensate for the falling interest rate. This was seconded by Joan Wallington. Elizabeth Heighway proposed donating the proceeds from quizzes to charity. This was seconded by Judith Appleby.

15) Any other business:

The chairlady read a letter from June Dent thanking members for the card and flowers which had been sent to her while she was in hospital recently.
Miss Briggs made the draw for the free lunch which was won by Judith Appleby

There being no other business the meeting closed at 12.25pm BACK
