Old Girls’ association had 185 members listed at the end of March 2006,
this included 137 annual members, 18 life members and 7 honorary members.
23 of those listed did not pay their membership fee for 2005 – 2006.
I have placed the names of six members who we have lost contact
with on the notice board, please let me know if you have any information
about these people. Since the last AGM 12 people have joined the
association, there have been 6 resignations and one member, Jean Beatie
(nee Rivis 1939 – 46, headgirl in 1945 –6) has died. This year
the committee decided to invite non -members to attend the Autumn lunch
and the lunch following the AGM today. They also asked members to invite
a school friend or colleague to join the association to try to boost membership.
Margaret Dennis is unable to be with us due to illness but has sent her best wishes to all members and friends. Jean Gilbanks who is on holiday has asked to be remembered to any members of her year who are present; she hopes to be able to attend future events. Dorothy Cordukes has sent her good wishes; she hopes that we will have an enjoyable lunch. New member, Ann Garrood has sent greetings to all & hopes to be able to attend the next re-union. Other apologies are listed on the notice board. The archive is now in Scarborough and there is a selection of material on display today, please add names if you recognise faces. We would welcome other school photographs, which could be copied and returned. Letters have been sent to members during the year to keep them informed of news and events. Could I make an appeal for more news items – these are of particular interest to those who are not able to attend functions. Marion Hebblethwaite has asked me to thank everyone who sent information about Jane Harrison. Marion is writing a series of books about holders of the George Cross, entitled “One Step Further” and the next one is due to be published in July. We would be grateful for any information about flower stand presented to the school in Jane’s memory in 1970. After an appeal in the Evening News yesterday I received a telephone call from someone who thought that the stand had been used in a drama production at Graham School in 2001 and I will follow this up next week. We are able to use the room until 5.00 this afternoon, hopefully this will give plenty of time to socialise with people who are not seated at the same table for lunch. Finally, could I remind you to let us have details of any new e-mail and postal addresses so that you do not miss any newsletters.
