RETIRED Scarborough Girls' High School headmistress Millicent Woods got the surprise of her life 25 years ago.

A ‘This Is Your Life’ surprise evening for her was staged at a meeting of the Soroptimist International of Scarborough. It was researched by another former Girls' High School headmistress, Hilda Briggs.

Miss Woods was head of the school from 1946 until 1963, and then Miss Briggs took over until the school disappeared in the chang-eover to comprehensive secondary education in 1973. Surprise guests at the event included former pupils and teachers.
