Secretary’s Report – AGM April 16th 2005

The SGHS Old Girls’ Association had membership of 181 in the year ending March 31st 2005, this includes 10 life members and seven honorary members. At the time of the AGM last year there were 241 names on the database of members but 106 people had not paid their membership fee for 2003 –4. After reminders were sent out many paid their subscription for 2004- 5 but 22 people said that they no longer wished to be members of the association. We have lost contact with 34 people who have not responded to letters recently. The names of these people are on the notice board and if anyone has any information about their present whereabouts I would be grateful if you could pass this on to me.

We have received news of the deaths of three members this year:-

Sybil Merryweather (nee Rymer) 1946-53 on July 16th 2004

Edith Megginson (nee Bamforth) 1934-38 on September 5th 2004

Barbara Lee (nee Fox) 1942-49 on March 6th 2005

Seven new members have joined the association, we hope to see more new faces in future. Approximately a third of our members live in North Yorkshire but the others are spread over a wide geographical area including Europe, Canada, USA, Australia & New Zealand. With the exception of 1927 & 1971, we have members representing all intakes from1926 until 1972, the last year of admission. Our oldest member Grace Bremner is not able to be with us today, she has sent her sincere greetings and congratulations on our success. Margaret Smith (nee Brett) 1950 – 1954 and Quelyn Duxbury (nee Wearing) 1954 –1961 have also asked me to pass on their good wishes to those who remember them.

Letters have been sent to members during the year to keep them informed of news and events. If you have an e-mail address and are happy to receive information electronically, this can save time and reduce costs. Please let me have details of any new addresses. The web site is up dated regularly by Maureen Ille and includes photographs of social and fund raising events. News and information from members can also be added.

Finally an apology, I have been asked to announce that there is no charge for attending the AGM. £16.50 is the cost of the lunch which is optional and I should have made this clear in the correspondence sent to members.
